12 Years A Slave is the Betting Choice For Oscar Nominations
86th Academy Awards will be announced tomorrow and 12 Years A Slave seems to be bookmakers’ favorite for getting several important nominations.
The recent Golden Globe Awards may be some sort of guide as to which will be the nominations and winners at the 2014 Oscars, but there is always room for surprises.
The big gambling news is this year’s bookies favorite movies to get nominations in the major Oscar categories: 12 Years a Slave with odds of 3/10, American Hustle (9/2) and Gravity at 7/1.
British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor is the current top choice for the Best Actor nomination, for his performance in 12 Years a Slave with odds of 8/11, followed by Matthew McConaughey at 2/1 and Robert Redford (16/1).
Leonardo DiCaprio star of The Wolf of Wall Street (20/1) keeps his hopes high as he has been nominated for three Oscars in the past, but has failed to win any. Bruce Dern (25/1) adds to the top five list.
The battle for the awards is expected to be harsh
A smart strategy will be to bet on Cate Blanchett, since her performance in Blue Jasmine places her at the top position for winning the Best Actress category nomination with odds of 1/8. The following expected choices are Sandra Bullock (8/1), Amy Adams (25/1), Judi Dench (33/1), Emma Thompson (40/1) and Adele Exarchopuolos (100/1).
In the Best Director Category, Gravity’s director Alfonso Cuaron is the bookmakers’ top choice at 4/11, followed by Steve McQueen (5/2), David O’Russell (14/1), Martin Scorcese (28/1) and Bennett Miller (66/1).
