888 Buys Mobile Casino Gaming Technology Provider Real Dice for $18 Million

In an effort to make itself the leading provider of mobile casino gaming and social gaming, 888.com has just bought a sizable piece of technology providers Real Dice Inc. for $18 million, including $12 million in cash and $6 million in incentive bonuses to be reached by the end of 2011.
Included in the sale of assets is the Mytopia social games development studio, a gaming platform for social games on Facebook and MySpace among others. 888 Mobile Casino also received a software license for Particle Code, a cross-platform application development framework designed for mobile devices and tablets.
888 hopes to leverage Real Dice assets to allow for greater options in social gaming on mobile gaming devices and smart phones. 888 also wants to use the new technology in its poker and bingo offerings, plus alongside casino games.
888 also recently announced the release of more social poker applications and real-time multi-player mobile poker games for handsets including Apple iPhones 3 and 4, Windows Mobile and J2ME, plus Google Androids version 1 and BlackBerry phones. And 888 also recently acquired Bingo Island 2, a Facebook application.
888 Holdings CEO Gigi Levy said that “This is a very exciting deal for 888, and builds on our aim of providing a variety of entertainment destinations where people can enjoy a truly interactive experience on a multitude of platforms.” Real Dice CEO Guy Ben-Artzi complimented his new partner with “888 understands where the market is going. Mytopia will thrive with 888’s infrastructure and expertise behind it.”
