American Judge Facing Jail for Illegal Gambling
Judge in jail
Law enforcement officials in the State of Arizona match their Texan counterparts in suppression of unregulated gambling.
No one, caught gambling outside of the law, is spared under Arizona law. Not even judges. A former judge of the state precinct court was been arrested and convinced for running an illegal casino. The three felony counts include conspiracy, promotion of gambling, and running and illegal enterprise.
This is not surprising as casino gambling news point out that committing a single crime in the United States will result in multiple charges in order to soften people into plea bargain by admitting to a crime in order to have redundant charges dropped. Occasionally, this results in innocent people pleading guilty to decrease the chances of a long prison sentence in case of conviction.
The judge, 69-year-old Harold L., played the cards like a losing black jack strategies player, putting it all on one card, which backfired. As reported, two of his card room operators have testified against the former judge in order to have reduced sentences. Their incriminating testimony will spare them from prison as probation sentences were handed. It is not known yet how long the judge will spend in jail as sentencing is scheduled to take place in March.
To fend off potential illegal casino operators, Mark Brnovich, Director of the Arizona Department of Gaming has stated: ”We’re sending a message in the strongest terms possible.”
While winning at blackjack brings the joys of success, Arizona neighborhoods will not tolerate any deviation from prescriptions of the law. Just as in Texas, violators will face jail.
