Last week, the Android Market adopted a new content rating system designed to help users quickly filter apps that are not appropriate for certain age groups.

One of the results of this new rating system is that real gambling is not allowed in the Android Market. Judging by their actions this week, Google is taking this new rule very seriously.

A mobile phone gambling app from online poker site Full Tilt called Rush Poker Mobile was in beta testing phase during the past few weeks, and a version was made available on the Android Market for players to test. The app has since been taken down. Full Tilt says the app is “unavailable due to maintenance.”

In an email sent out to curious customers, Full Tilt explains, “While we are delighted at the success of the Rush Poker Mobile software, due to the software being in beta testing stage, maintenance such as this is often essential.”

Despite Full Tilt’s insistence, it seems clear from the new Android Market content rules that the app was taken down for a rules violation.

This does not mark the end of Android gambling. The Rush Poker Mobile app is in fact still available for download from the Full Tilt website.
