Artificial Intelligence Experiment Suggests Online Gamblers Are Predictable
A recent scientific study published in the Journal of Gambling Studies, which looks at the behavior of online gamblers using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, has brought about some very interesting results. AI is special computer technology that tries to replicate human thinking; basically, it is a computer that learns. Using a specially-crafted AI computer system, researchers have been able to predict with amazing accuracy not only how much a gambler will bet, but how much they will win or lose over time.
The experiment involved telling the AI computer system monitor 675 hands of online Texas Hold ‘Em from 6 different players. It took a few rounds for the system to kick in, because it has to “learn” how each gambler thinks and acts. After every hand the AI would guess what the player’s next move would be, and would adjust its mathematical calculations based on whether it was right or wrong.
Once the AI system became tuned to a particular player, it was able to predict the dollar amount of their next bet down to the penny. Also, based on the player’s moves and on the predictions made by the AI, the system could calculate how much the player would win or lose over time.
No information was released about the players, but this study suggests that they used rigid betting systems when playing online poker games, and that the players did not change their strategy over time. This is actually the best way to win money online, especially with card games like poker and blackjack.
