Before long, Maryland will be added to the list of US states that offer casino style gambling. On Friday, the state’s first casino received a shipment of 1,500 slot machines, which are now being installed in a race to get the new gambling center open by its September deadline.

The Hollywood Casino in Perryville is expected to bring in millions of dollars in profits for the state. These slot machines will be connected with the state lottery system, which will help funnel the revenue into state coffers.

“This is going to give a huge boost to the economy of Maryland,” said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. “Not only is the state going to experience the benefits in tax revenue, but employment opportunities will also come from the opening of the casino.”

After the new slots are installed, the casino will set up electronic gaming tables, offering video poker, blackjack, roulette, and other classics. So far, only these virtual table games have been approved. Perhaps later, as more Maryland casinos open up, they will be able to offer real blackjack tables as well. The state is a long way from offering blackjack tournaments or even from competing with its northern neighbor Pennsylvania’s newly legalized table games, but locals are excited about the new development, and more casino gambling is sure to follow.
