Tony Belcourt, a Montana State Representative, is looking to legalize blackjack in the State to find additional financing for social services.

House Bill 423 is carried by Belcourt in hope of raising additional revenue for Montana Department of Health and Human Services.

Services in question are suicide prevention, domestic violence prevention, disability services, long-term care services, child foster care services and others. The proposed bill will introduce an account to gather money raised from permit fees for blackjack card games. The Legislature would be responsible for spreading collected funds among social services. Use of money in the account would be limited to purposes of providing additional funding for departmental programs.

Republican majority is cutting DPHHS budget, and this bill is looking to find additional income sources. Under current Montana law blackjack games are not a legal form of gambling. The proposed bill sets limits on bets at $25 per game.
