Northampton Community College, a school in the US state of Pennsylvania, saw the first wave of blackjack graduates complete their table game training last week. The college began training blackjack dealers last year, as part of new requirements related to the new Mount Airy Casino which hopes to open soon.

Ninety-two students signed up for the course, which provides students with blackjack dealer certification. Anyone who wants to be a dealer at the new Mount Airy Casino is required to pass. Of the original 92, all but five graduated on Thursday.

Mount Airy Casino Resort President George Toth expects to hire most of the new certified blackjack dealers straight away – as long as they pass their licensing requirements. Prospective dealers will have to demonstrate their knowledge of blackjack rules before receiving a license to work at the casino. This should be no problem since the intensive six-week course taught students all they need to know about the game, along with basic card and chip handling techniques that all good dealers should know.

Another blackjack class will begin on Monday, and Northampton College is offering a further session in June for anyone else interested in becoming a certified blackjack dealer.
