Buddhist Monks Caught Drinking and Gambling
Bad blackjack bet?
A gambling and pot smoking monk? Hey, why not!
According to the latest casino gambling news in South Korea, a particular group of gamblers has been caught, while an international scandal emerged.
Not that these were some criminals wagering stakes among themselves from the money just stolen from an infant orphan charity. Quite to the contrary, these were men of religion, the Buddhist monks. While swearing to keep the mind clear and concentrated, which actually helps when it comes to card counting , the monks let their desires flow, while intoxicated with alcohol, and may not see nirvana anytime soon. At least, not in this lifetime.
As reports indicate, the blackjack wagers placed were quite high, especially as for monks living in chastity. Furthermore, the rumors have it that a group of Nepalese prostitutes was present, while marijuana smoked.
Although this incident doesn’t help in maintaining Buddhism’s high esteem, it will not demolish this great and thousands of years old religion and philosophy. And the truth is: even the monks have their needs. However, this is not the only scandal involving Korean monks.
In the recent past there were corruption scandals. Finances in the Buddhist orders are tightly controlled and the monks seek other ways to satisfy their earthly needs. Venues such as online blackjack websites attract many card counting monks. This makes us wonder, are we going to see these spiritual gurus enter Vegas casinos and clean their tables?
