Recent Euro 2012 matches have been a shock both to Poland, the host, as well as favored Russian team.

After astounding performance for defeating Italy 3-0 days before Euro 2012 Football Championships took off, and for knocking out the Czechs 4-1 in the first group match, the Russia’s Sbornaya (as the team is known) failed to qualify to the quarter-finals in the easiest group. The Greeks, expected to be eaten alive, have defeated Russia 1-0. The lambs have eaten the wolves.

In the other match, as Euro 2012 news report, Poland was defeated by the Czech Republic 1-0 after lame performance. These are Czechs and Greeks who will play in the quarter-finals and their punters are surely making football bets on the upcoming games.

While the Poles feel horrible, and their coach, Smuda, is under severe attack, Russians have another thing to worry about. UEFA has penalized Russia with 6 points which will be subtracted for Euro 2016 qualifications. It is a result of Russian fans carrying unapproved flags into stadium. These referred to nationalistic and imperial ambitions. The good news is that the penalty will not be applied if during Euro 2016 qualifications similar incidents will not occur.

UEFA has also fined the Croatian Football Federation with a 25,000 euros ($35,000) fine for Croatian fans throwing flares during the match against Ireland. Furthermore, UEFA is investigating the incident which happened during Croatia-Italy game as a banana was thrown on the field. This is in response to Italian player of African descent, Mario Balotelli, who claimed he will kill if someone throws a banana at him.

As Euro 2012 progresses, emotions are many. We had fights between Polish and Russian hooligans, flares and bananas being thrown on the field, all while great matches are taking place.
