Last week, France’s National Assembly passed a bill to legalize and regulate online gaming in the country. The bill passed by a wide majority, and while some are hailing it as a big step forward, it might not be time to celebrate quite yet.

The new online gambling bill in France has quite a few strings attached. For example, it’s going to make it very hard for foreign gambling companies to legally enter the French online gambling market.

The biggest problem, however, deals with new rules about what kinds of games these new French online casinos are allowed to offer. It has been decided that games of luck are not going to be allowed at all. This means that games of pure chance like slots are out of the question, while games like poker are allowed to be offered. Sports betting and horse racing are also allowed. But as of yet, there is no word on blackjack.

The question remains – will the French decide that blackjack is a game of skill, or a game of luck? Traditionally blackjack is considered to be a game of skill, and anyone who plays the game regularly will probably agree. People who are not used to the game, however, may see it as being a game of luck.
