Gambling Thief Caught After Ten Years
Jihad Blackjack
Another fraudster grabbed by the arms of justice.
Ten years ago, an Irish immigrant in Australia embezzled $300,000 dollars to pursue voracious appetite for gambling. As a Queensland province employee, the man was able to siphon off the cash from the state coffers and spend these on whisky and ceaseless casino blackjack gambling at which badly placed bets lost money quickly. The theft occurred in 2001 and 2002.
While facing investigation, the deranged gambler disappeared only to be found ten years later after winning at an online blackjack competition and, thus, having his real name exposed in the international gambling news.
After being extradited, the investigators still can’t find where $100,000 of the stolen money went. While $200,000 has been tracked to a couple of land-based casinos in Australia, the rest is untraceable and the law enforcement believes it may have been spent at underground betting dens run by Indonesian Muslims, which then transfer the gambling money to support Jihad in East Timor.
The defendant’s attorney claimed the accused is suffering from pathological gambling disorder and is a dead-beat alcoholic. The judge in return handled a six year sentence, while making the man eligible for parole after serving eight months in prison.
Moreover, the accused may be banned from online and mobile casinos while on parole. As rumored, the Irish gambler asked the judge if he will be able to play bingo in jail and still qualify for a parole. This has led to courtroom laughs, while the judge kept on hammering the desk, while smirking.
