The Global Poker Index is considered the prime ranking for live poker tournaments. Players are ranked weekly based on their performance and finishing cash positions in qualifying tournaments over the previous 3 years period.

The current Top 10 ranked players that are regularly making it into the gambling news are following. The top 1 player is Ole Schemion (Germany) with 3,227.76 points.

He won over $4 million in live tournaments, despite the fact that until recently he couldn’t play in Las Vegas tournaments, because he was underage. Schemion has impressive scores – 36 cashes, 28 final tables and 9 wins.

Second comes Daniel Negreanu (Canada) with 3,107.44 points. He had impressive 2013 and his earnings are currently $19,549,209. He won a World Series of Poker bracelet, winning the opening WSOP-Asia Pacific Main Event and his second bracelet of the year (total of six so far), when he became the WSOP Europe High Roller champion.

Philipp Gruissem (Germany) with 3,031.37 points is third in the ranking. He won back-to-back World Poker Tour Alpha8 events with buy-ins of GBP 100,000 and $100,000 for combined scores of almost $2.5 million.

The rest of the list is dominated by American players

Numebr 4 is Marvin Rettenmaier (Germany) with 3,027.84 points. His participation in most tournaments earned him the nickname “Mad” and his current fortune is over $4.5 million from live tournament winnings. He deliberately tries to avoid online poker as much as possible, unlike his usual opponents.

The rest of the players in the list are only Americans – Vanessa Selbst (the only female, also one of the most successful tournament players of all times), Bryn Kenney, Shannon Shorr, Stephen O’Dwyer, Paul Volpe and Erik Seidel.
