The Bay Trail-T chipset becomes the first major update Intel has put its Atom line of SoCs through.

The upgraded chipset will surely be liked by technophiles and mobile casino gamers alike, thanks to the brand new microarchitecture called Silvermont and Intel’s proprietary LTE modem. The microarchitecture is based on a 22nm process, just like the new Haswell chips from Intel. It will deliver either a 3x increase in performance, or a 5x increase in energy saving capabilities over the current line of Atoms.

The performance increase will be particular interesting to Android casino players, and will be felt in the form of much better single-threaded performance all the way up to 8 cores, however, the first SoCs to hit the market will be quad-cores.

The Intel Bay Trail-T chipsets will sure make their way into tablets powered by both Android and Windows, but will also power basic laptops and some desktops. The manufacturer promises over 8 hours of battery life on a 30Wh battery operating a 10.1 inch screen playing a 1080p video at 30fps.

The new Intel chips will also offer support for 4K video decoding, and will surely up the 3D games performance, a note to mobile casino software developers. Sadly, there’s still no information on the GPU included in the new chipsets.

Tablets and PCs may not be the only target for the new chips, as the Merrifield platform, also working on a 22nm process, will most probably power a wide range of devices.

Also good to know that the brand new XMM 7160 modem will be built into selected Bay Trail-T SoCs offering global LTE roaming at a very low power consumption. This will scare Qualcomm in particular, who could lose their dominant position, however, new Snapdragons are also expected to hit the news soon.
