MGM Abandons Casino Plans in Massachusetts
MGM Casino
MGM decides not to build a casino in one Massachusetts neighborhood.
MGM just abandoned plans to build a posh resort casino in a rural neighborhood in the state of Massachusetts. Despite cheaper land, the distant location, virtually in the middle of nowhere, is too risky of a bet.
The expected acquisition of 150 acres of land didn’t proceed to its final conclusion as additional costs, including the development of connecting roads to a state highway, proved to be too expensive as the casino gambling news report.
What has added to the decision were the protests of the local residents fearing the extra congestion. Now, they can rest in peace as new jobs will not be created in their neighborhood, while property prices are bound to decline after the casino complex plans were dropped.
This is nothing new. Whether for religious or social reasons, many American communities vehemently object to casino plans in their proximity. Many fear that their sons may become problem gamblers in attempts at winning at blackjack or poker. Some also worry their teenage daughters may be tempted to become casino parking lot prostitutes as many casino guests, used to such places as Las Vegas, seek to combine gambling with sex.
At the same time, due to lobbying efforts of horse racing tracks and Indian reservation casinos, any liberalization of gambling in the States fails to materialize, resulting in millions of Americans playing at mobile casinos as a more convenient alternative.
