Florida Casino Security Guards Shocked to Find 5 Children in Running Car
Two women have been arrested in Florida, in a crime that could never have happened if they’d been allowed to visit a mobile casino. Oh, but it’s not a gambling crime that the mother and daughter have been charged with, no: it’s neglect.
Angela Pond, 37, and her daughter Esharia Pond, 21, left their car to go and play on the slot machines in the Gulfstream Casino in Hallandale Beach, Broward County. Yet the car wasn’t alone: there were 5 children left alone, between the ages of 1 and 11. Not a very smart strategy, that, as security guards found the children after 32 minutes alone, with the car’s engine running.
Two of the children were Angela’s, and three were Esharia’s, and the mother and daughter duo were later bailed by police after being held on a $5,000 bond.
That’s some pretty ropey behavior from the parents, whose love of slots wasn’t helped by the lack of real money mobile slots in the US. Perhaps if the government had passed legislation sooner, the children would have been safe at home while their mothers gambled in the living room.
On the other hand, this probably would have happened anyway, and it’s fair to say it’s no fault of the casino itself. At least the security guards spotted the children when they did.
