New York Resident Fights Against Casino Development in His Neighborhood
Dwight Jenkins from East Greenbush, New York, fights gambling group that plans to build a casino in his community.
Recent casino gambling news upset local resident Jenkins, who strongly opposes any plans for a casino development, which is intended to be located a mere half-mile from his home.
The concerned local man believes that a gambling facility in his calm and nice community would ruin the place. “This is a nice place. It’s going to become perhaps not a nice place soon.”
He believes that common casino table manners are not the most commendable, and would not fit appropriately in the community that has known for almost 20 years.
Saratoga Casino and Raceway is the casino group in question, as they have recently applied for a state license that should grant them the permission to proceed with construction plans.
The Town Board of the East Greenbush gave a unanimous vote for support of the casino last week. Jenkins, who attends the meetings on a regular basis, claims that the vote was conducted in the last-minute of the session.
Although the Town Supervisor, Keith Langley, stated that the vote was cast just so they can accept proposals. Jenkins, on the other hand, is worried that it will actually lead to the construction of the casino.
Social media sites used to express protests
Jenkins even decided upon creating a Facebook page, which is titled “No East Greenbush Casino” and is intended to raise awareness about the proposed gaming project throughout the community.
He wants people of the small town to make an appearance at Town Hall on May 21 to express their dissatisfaction with the deal.
