Casinos in the US are picky about hiring blackjack dealers. Candidates must be courteous and professional. They must understand the rules of the game inside and out. But most importantly, they need to be fast and efficient, able to read hands and recognize winners instantly, and to handle cards and chips with ease (even with elegance).

To help would-be dealers learn the ropes, the Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is offering a six-week course to certify students as blackjack dealers. The course is being offered in partnership with Mount Airy Casino Resort, which will begin offering blackjack to its patrons later this year. Pennsylvania recently legalized table games in its casinos, and Mount Airy will be among the first in the state to offer blackjack.

Interestingly, the course begins with a disclaimer: “Forget everything you know about blackjack. Playing means nothing.” They warn students that the view is very different from the other side of the table. On completing the course, students will be certified blackjack dealers – this certification is required of all blackjack dealers in Pennsylvania casinos.

Once certified, these blackjack students will have a lot to live up to. Professional dealers who have been in the game for years have unmatched skills. Of course, no human can match the dealing prowess of a computer – online blackjack games are dealt perfectly every hand, and players never have to deal with mis-read cards, sloppy chip handling, or any of the other little issues that can turn a great game into a major frustration. Online, every blackjack game is always perfect!
