Professional Poker Players Choose to Live in Budapest
Pros in Budapest
Card Player pro Michael Weisbrod and his company of four joined Daniel Cates to live in Budapest.
The Central European capital of Budapest has attracted a number of high profile US poker players recently. After Black Friday, it has become impossible for US poker aficionados to play online from American locations. However, Hungarian laws make it possible for them to put online wagers from a Hungarian IP address.
Heads-up specialist Daniel Cates aka “jungleman12″ was the first famous poker pro to move to Budapest. The young American has already totaled about 7 million dollars in his poker career, earning over 5 million dollars this year alone. In an interview, Cates mentioned he liked the quality of life in the 2-million city, as well as its rich cultural heritage.
A few weeks ago, a player from a Hungarian IP address won the $164,619 main prize in the World Championship of Online Poker’s (WCOOP) No Limit Hold’em tournament. Soon it was found out that Michael Weisbrod was behind the nick.
As it turns out, Weisbrod and his four flat mates, feared fellow poker professionals Reese Newell, Michael Leow, Michael Song and Kurt Fruchtman, share a huge apartment in downtown Budapest. The quintet, most of who specializes in heads-ups, regularly plays online poker on international sites from the bachelor pad.
Young gambling professionals love the Hungarian capital
In a recent video interview to a Hungarian gambling news site, the famous poker players praised the city for its nice girls, good food and buzzing nightlife.
The fives pros also told how much they liked the Hungarian music festivals and how much they enjoyed their 3-week break in neighboring Croatia, where some of them were involved in intense blackjack battles.
