Daniel Dravot retired in 2004. He spent his life as a real estate developer, but when he saw signs that the economy was about to take a dip, he decided to get out of the game while he was ahead. He spent a few years enjoying the quiet life, but he quickly got bored. One day, as he was reading a book about blackjack card counting techniques, he had an epiphany.

Now, Dravot lives on the road 250 to 300 days a year, traveling around the United States as a professional blackjack player. He’s a card counter, so he tends to get tossed out of casinos now and then, which is one of the reasons he stays on the move. Card counting is not illegal, but casinos don’t like to lose.

Dravot has found great success and even greater joy in his new career. He has even developed a new, revised card counting system that he feels is perfect for the average player. A few years ago he even published a book about it called The Color of Blackjack. His book is all about paying attention to the game, and learning when the tables turn. Sometimes the dealer has the edge, but sometimes it shifts over to the player, and being a good blackjack player is all about learning to take advantage of those times when the player is in charge of the game.
