How do mobile gamers habits differ from those of more traditional online players? That’s the question Internet game producers Greentube and research institute Gamematrix set out to answer. Though the study does not specifically address Internet casino gaming, the results certainly present a clear picture of who’s online and playing these days.

Naturally the study found that both playing games online and playing mobile games are increasing in popularity. The study reports a 30% increase in online gamers between 2008 and 2009, while noting that “mobile games are catching up continuously” with online gaming – including mobile casinos.

The study also notes that growth is seen in the two age groups dominant at online casinos. “Online gaming is still more popular with 55-year-olds” notes the study, going on to show that 26% of all Internet gamers are between 35 and 44 years of age. Mobile games, and by inference mobile casinos, are most popular among the under-35s and generally the younger a player is, the more likely he or she is to play a mobile game.

Maybe most noteworthy for providers of online casinos is the fact that most players are from higher-income households or lower-income households. Strangely, the middle income level households were noted as “below average” in performance in the study. And players online are more likely to spend as well.

All in all, the Greentube/Gamematrix study certainly seems to imply lots of room for growth in mobile casino gaming and that exciting times are ahead for both players and providers.
