Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade bought new 4×4 the after it was awarded GBP 20,000 in the Echo’s Do a Lotto Good campaign.

The group from Roker was one of 14 community projects to win a share of GBP 250,000 Big Lottery Fund allowance.

Rose Roberts, secretary of the SVLB, commented on the special charity gambling news: “The vehicle will make a huge difference and support the work that we do.”

The old rescue car was five years old and needed desperate replacement. Therefore, the group didn’t put any time in exploring special smart strategies on how to spend the grant and purchased a new 4×4. The car caused sincere excitement among the rescuers, who will have the opportunity to perform their job even better.

It will be used to transport volunteers to incidents and transport casualties from hardly-accessible areas. It is additionally equipped with blue lights, two-tone horns, radio, shelving to stow equipment and graphics.

The work of the group will be seriously supported by the new vehicle

Roberts commented: “It is actually classified as an ambulance because we do First Aid and transfer casualties. It has been fitted with blue lights and satisfies all the official standards.”

She added: “It will be used on our search and rescue operations along the coast, help us to reach locations quickly and effectively, as well as help rescue casualties in very challenging conditions.”

Rose thanked the Big Lottery Fund for the amazing award and said that “It would ensure that the group had a reliable vehicle to act when there are emergency situations. We can’t thank the Big Lottery Fund enough for the funding. Their support is amazing.”
