Tattoo Artist Stole $4 Million for Online Gambling and Rare Books

Just a decade ago, tattoo artists had a seedy reputation, and were usually portrayed on television as corpulent, long haired biker types in leather, with a greasy beard and a raging methamphetamine addiction. Not anymore.
An unsealed federal indictment in Illinois District Court accuses one Kenneth A. Dachman, a 52 year old Chicago tattoo shop owner of a complex fraud scheme which netted $4 million in cash.
Federal prosecutors charged Dachman with 11 counts of wire fraud for allegedly defrauding 50 investors out of their life savings.
Dachman, a tattoo aficionado and a hardcore online blackjack player, convinced investors that besides designing tattoos, he was also a scientist with a PhD from the prestigious Northwestern University who invented a miracle device to help patients suffering from sleep disorders right in the comfort of their own homes.
The large prison tattoo of a spider-web on his elbow and another of a tear drop under the eye did not deter the 50 investors, who nearly tripped over each other when giving Mr. Dachman their hard earned savings.
The gambling tattoo maestro pulled a fast one out of his bag of blackjack tricks and instead of spending the stolen loot on developing some sleep gizmo, he simply kept the money for himself.
According to casino gambling news, what amazed prosecutors was that instead of squandering the stolen loot on expensive motorcycles, whiskey, fast women and large chunks of crack-cocaine (as any self-respecting tattoo shop owner would be expected to do), Mr. Dachman bought a mansion, expanded the tattoo shop, traded stocks and invested in rare books and antique furniture.
On victim, who asked not to be identified, was upset about the situation – ‘This is the second time this happened to me. First I invested $100,000 with my cleaning lady’s cat cloning business. How was I supposed to know she had eight cats that were octuplets … and now this? I trusted Doctor… Mr. Dachman. My doorman recommended him.”
Mr. Dachman is facing up to 20 years in prison for each of the wire fraud counts as well as mandatory restitution.
