Usage of OTB Mobile Apps For Betting on Horse Races Grows at Tracks
Mobile betting
Rapid growth of mobile technology brings faster development and wider use of mobile betting apps in the horse racing industry.
The Cheltenham Festival horseracing event, held in UK recently, was a great example of how popular mobile betting has become among punters. Mfuse, the mobile gambling software and technology provider, showed in its report that a new record was set in the number of punters using its mobile app during the event.
The top-ranked event on the National Racing Hunt calendar, Cheltenham Festival, enjoyed its most successful year to date, receiving a record number of mobile bets. Compared to 2010 figures, the use of mobile betting apps increased by 400% since last year’s event. The jump in numbers was primarily due to leading mobile sportsbooks like William Hill and Ladbrokes enterance into the mobile betting market.
Mfuse report also revealed that bets placed via mobile phones in the first day of the 2011 event, outnumbered those placed during all four days of the 2010’s event. This is the equivalent of three punters placing a bet every second, using mobile gambling apps.
Marcus Wareham, Mfuse CEO, said – “This is fantastic news for Cheltenham, for race goers and for people on the move who don’t want to miss out on the fun. As a horse-racing enthusiast, I am immensely proud that Mfuse is associated with the most famous meeting in the racing calendar.”
He went on to comment that “The use of mobile sports betting apps over the last year has out-paced even our own optimistic expectations. Race goers are embracing technology which makes it possible to place a bet wherever you are: at the races or on the sofa. Our new live horse racing and betting app has clearly been a hit with Ladbrokes’ customers.”
In his statements, Wareham spoke about the company’s latest product: the first live horse racing and betting application for handhelds in the UK. The new app, available on iPhone through the Ladbrokes betting application, makes it possible for any punter in the UK and Ireland to enjoy a live broadcast of their favorite race after betting only 1 pound.

i reckon this can quickly get out of hand, unless properly regulated.
never before have sporting events faced an issue where spectators can place bets and almost be part of the action. whats to say that a person that placed a bet on his mobile wont try to affect the race somehow on the spot?

of course it will make horse racing industry grow if they all use technology for that since it will be very easy already so it will grow fast. i just hope that no minors will be into gambling since it would be very easy to join and bet already.
