Mobile phone gambling was a hot topic at last week’s Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas.

A panel discussion on Wednesday explored the current state of the industry, and many casino representatives spoke of their desire to see mobile phone gambling come to Las Vegas.

Lee Amaitis, Chief Executive Officer of Cantor Gaming, spoke of the rise of mobile phones as a sign of a generation of people on the move. If the Vegas casino industry is to stay on top of the gambling world, they will need to embrace this fact.

Cantor Gaming’s Race and Sports Book at M Resort currently uses a mobile device called the eDeck to help patrons bet on sports and enjoy blackjack card games while on the go. The device only works inside the resort, but it’s a good start, and the technology has proven popular with customers.

Alex Kelly, vice president of interactive with International Game Technology, joined in on the panel discussion. Kelly and the others are well aware that US regulations surrounding gambling will have to change if mobile casinos are to become a part of the Las Vegas experience.

Amaitis believes that the legalization and regulation of mobile and online gambling in the US is inevitable. “We are working with regulators to show how we can make the (mobile) market safe and secure,” he said. “It’s going to happen because people want to do it.”
