Who Really Profited from Euro 2012 Football Championships?
National hero
The Euro 2012 is ending. Here we discuss who really won and who lost.
The host countries lost on the football field. Their teams didn’t get out of the group stage. Yet, the countries ran a good tournament as organizers, and have new stadiums, airports, and rail stations. Also, their image has been improved.
Portuguese did well. Reaching the semi-final and leaving with a bronze medal is a significant achievement, even though some Portuguese punters may be a bit disappointed.
And who lost on the football field? Certainly, the Netherlands, a World Cup 2010 finalist. The Dutch lost all the games. This is not as bad of the performance of an Irish team. The Irish got walked on in all the hopeless games they played where they shot only one goal and lost nine.
Probably, the happiest punters are those who made bets on Italy reaching the final right after the team lost a friendly game to Russia 3-0. The odds were quite high then.
We also had some crazy things happen during the tournament. There were street battles among Polish and Russian hooligans right in the center of Warsaw. But not all went badly. After all, Mario Balotelli didn’t kill anyone as he said he would if someone throws a banana at him. Indeed, there were some bananas thrown during one of Italian team matches.
That didn’t upset Mario. The man just shot two goals during Germany-Italy semi-final, giving Italians a victory. The final is yet to prove what Balotelli will do. There are some rumors, as Euro 2012 newsreport, that he is allergic to grass and may not appear during the final. But, it’s like saying Madonna just died. Hype.
So hope you enjoy the final game, either as a fan or a football punter, by television, online or via a mobile sports platforms, which are increasingly becoming popular.
Have fun!
