Whether on-land or online, playing without the knowledge or use of basic blackjack strategy is just bad news. Blackjack is a great game for punters to play due to the fact that, on average, the house edge hovers around just 2%. This edge can be lowered to roughly 1.5% if a player is using some good strategy.

Regardless, casinos and online casinos have the ability to rake in thousands and even millions of dollars a year on blackjack because so many players simply don’t apply basic strategies to their game, or simply do not know what they’re doing. Here are some basic strategies that can be used to make up for common mistakes.

8s against a 10: Split the 8s! Two hands that start as 8 are much better than a 16 against a 10. Both 8s will lose money in the long run but the combined loss will come to less than the 16’s loss in the long run. Hard to believe when you’re looking at your chips on the table, but its true.

12 against 2: Many players think that hitting this hand is dangerous because they assume that they will bust. In reality, players have a 9 in 13 chance of surviving the hit. The dealers two is not as vulnerable as a 4, 5, or 6, giving players even more reason to hit.

The saying, “practice makes perfect” applies to blackjack as well as anything else. The more comfortable a player is with a strategy the easier it will come.
