A woman from Toronto collects $50m on lottery from a ticket that she thought she had lost!

In gambling news, Kathryn Jones aged 54, from Hamilton in Toronto bought a Lotto Max ticket and promptly lost it and forgot about it. The ticket was a real winner – a $50-million lottery prize! Mrs. Jones, an engineer, is married to Robert, also an engineer. They have two children who are currently attending university.

Mrs. Jones bought her winning Lotto Max ticket back in November 2012. Lotto Max is run by Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), Canada. It is responsible for the province’s lotteries, charity, online casinos. Its investigative department is responsible for detecting fraudulent activities and also for locating winners who haven’t come forward. They connected Mrs. Jones to her windfall.

Wild and wonderful journey

With the aid of smart strategies, OLG found a video of Jones buying the ticket and when an investigation found her, she was able to produce a credit card bill with the purchase on it. The winning ticket was purchased at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Cambridge.

Mrs. Jones said: “I’m looking forward to the whole new facet of my life that has been opened up because OLG took the initiative to find me.” She added that since winning, it has been a “wild and wonderful journey”. Jones added that she will now retire from her job as an engineer.
