A woman walked into a casino in Atlantic City this weekend and recognized a pair of fugitives wanted for murder.

Jama Rhodes manages a doctor’s office in Atlantic City. On Thursday, a woman walked into the office and asked about renting an apartment in the building. Rhodes gave the woman the landlord’s number, and then went about her day as usual.

That evening, Rhodes’ colleague Clare Magee was watching the evening news when she saw a feature about a mother-son team wanted for murder. Magee recognized the mother as the woman that Rhodes had spoken to in the Doctor’s office earlier that day. She called the national fugitive hotline, but did not get a response.

The next day, Rhodes and Magee spoke about the two fugitives: Michelle Costello, 43, and her son Peter Costello, 19. They joked about bumping into the pair again – little did Rhodes know, she would soon bump into the murder again at a USA blackjack casino.

Friday night, Rhodes walked into Resorts Atlantic City casino with a friend. Not ten minutes later, she spotted Michelle Costello playing a black jack casino game. She called 911, but was told to speak to a casino security guard instead. The guard was skeptical at first, and then finally a supervisor also recognized the woman. Soon, police detectives became involved, and about an hour later, the pair was arrested without incident.

The Atlantic City blackjack casino gave Rhodes a $40 food voucher for her trouble.
